Hello and welcome to The Turquoise Tortuga! Many of you have asked, so here is a little background on how our family started our candle business.
In the summer of 2020, amid Covid, our candle purchases were increasing due to the needed stress relief and self-care that candles can bring with their light, smell, and ambiance. One day out of the blue, the idea to make candles was brought up but was quickly laughed off never giving it a second thought. Then several months later under the Christmas tree, surprisingly, Santa left a beautifully wrapped box full of candle-making supplies. We made our little candles over the Christmas break and the seed was planted.
Candle Making is Serious Business!
Little did we know that candle making was serious business. We started our research on wax, wicks, jars, labels, suppliers, testing, online stores, insurance, markets, and the list goes on. One thing we knew was that we wanted our candles to be clean, phthalate free, free of known toxins and mutagens, and eco-friendly. We wanted to create scents that evoked memories and brought happiness and calm into our lives.
Can We Do This?
We started making and testing candles while also working full time and over 200 miles away from each other. Could we do this? We jumped in not knowing what we were getting into or where this would take us, but we had faith to take a chance on something that was only in our wildest dreams.
